Besucherbergwerk Grube Fortuna
"Glück auf!", says the visitor mine of the Fortuna mine north of Solms-Oberbiel near Wetzlar. The basics of mining are explained in the mining museum. Underground tours of one or more hours can be booked underground. A support basket takes visitors to the 150 m level. Afterwards, the mine train takes you to the mining area, where experienced mine managers demonstrate the original machines and explain work processes and special features of the mountains.
Zeiteninsel
The Zeiteninsel is currently being built as an archaeological open-air museum on the outskirts of Weimar-Argenstein in the Marburg-Biedenkopf district. In future, visitors will walk in the area of approx. 3.5 hectares in the footsteps of hunters and collectors from the Stone Age to the Germanic tribes of the Roman period and thus be able to experience a journey through time through the early history of Hesse up close.
